3M Petrifilm Aqua heterotroph count (AQHC) plates are used for heterotrophic bacteria counting in the bottled water industry. All red colonies on a white background that form at the end of a 48-hour incubation should be counted. They are available in the format of 100 or 1000 units and can be used both with filtering membranes and with direct inoculation of 1 ml of water.
