Liquid culture medium, used in the analysis of waters. This tryptophan broth enables detection of indole production at 44°C in order to distinguish Escherichia coli bacteria from other coliforms according to ISO9308. Indole can be detected by means of Kovacs reagent (red coloration). Escherichia coli is (oxidase and indole +) other coliforms are (oxidase and indole -).
