PCA is a medium used to enumerate of the total aerobic flora of food products following the microbiology standards ISO4833 and ISO7698. The nutrient substances provided by the peptone, the growth factors contained in the yeast extract, and the glucose used as an energy source favor the growth of most aerobic bacteria. The type of inoculation, the temperature and the duration of incubation vary according to the bacteria being enumerated (mesophilic, psychrotrophic, thermophilic). The product is available as dehydrated powder.
