MacConkey + Crystal Violet Agar – medium for Enterobatteriaceae isolation and Shigella identification acc. to ISO21567
- Format: 500 g
- Code: TN1156
- Technology: Culture media and ISO confirmation tests
- Application: Food/Water microbiology
- Tag/Filter: Shigella
This medium is used to isolate and enumerate enterobacteriaceae, and particularly Escherichia coli in the testing of microbial contamination of non-sterile Pharmacopeia products. It is also part of a food microbiology standard method (ISO21567 Horizontal method for the detection of Shigella spp.). The principle of the medium rests on the ability of coliforms to ferment lactose (brick-red colonies). Other Enterobacteriaceae forms honey-coloured colonies. Due to the presence of bile salts and crystal violet this medium inhibits Gram-positive bacteria.
