BHI is a highly nutrient liquid medium suitable for the growth of microorganisms whatever their mode of respiration (aerobic or anaerobic). When supplemented with rabbit plasma it allows the detection of free coagulase of coagulase positive staphylococci in products destined for human or animal consumption (according to ISO6888) and water with typical fibrin clots formation.
