Analysis of complex food matrices: the technical and strategic support of Generon’s R&D-FAS team

Generon’s R&D-FAS team is the company’s flagship and a recognized reference for the analysis of complex food and environmental matrices in agri-food and environmental safety and control.

With multidisciplinary expertise and in-depth knowledge of advanced analytical technologies, the team supports laboratories, companies, and regulatory bodies in developing and implementing reliable, robust, tailored solutions.

Technical Support and Development of Tailored Analytical Solutions

One of the key activities of Generon’s R&D-FAS team is providing technical support to clients, from selecting the most suitable method to troubleshooting analytical issues. We specialize in developing customized systems for the extraction and identification of target analytes in food matrices (GMOs, allergens, bacteria, and viruses).

Nucleic Acid Extraction from Complex Food Matrices

Regarding nucleic acid extraction, we implement systems for the analysis of challenging matrices characterized by high complexity, low extraction yields, or the presence of inhibitors and interfering substances that can compromise the reliability of downstream analyses.

In this field, Generon provides a comprehensive portfolio of extraction kits, including four dedicated solutions optimized for complex or inhibitor-rich samples.

Extraction Kits: Ion Force, IonSpin K, GenMag Extraction, and Fast Food

  • Ion Force is designed for complex, non-homogeneous matrices that require high sample representativeness and the simultaneous extraction of a large number of samples;

  • IonSpin K is suitable for a wide range of matrices and is ideal for laboratories handling a limited number of samples.
  • GenMag Extraction is an extraction kit designed for use with a highly efficient, high-throughput automated system, enabling the simultaneous processing of up to 48 samples;
  • Fast Food is suitable for all microbiological analyses using an enrichment broth as the starting material.

Applied Research and Innovation: GenMag Project with IndiMag 2

R&D-FAS projects are aimed at improving the performance of existing kits on emerging matrices of interest to the global market, as well as developing solutions tailored to specific customer requests.

This marks the beginning of a close, hands-on collaboration and a new research project following a rigorous, customer-oriented scientific approach, ensuring high sensitivity, specificity, and reproducibility in line with sector-specific application and regulatory requirements.

The new GenMag extraction kit for food matrices, based on magnetic bead technology and combined with the IndiMag 2 extraction robot, is part of this innovation stream for the analysis of complex food matrices.

Real-Time PCR, ELISA, and Lateral Flow for Complex Food Matrices

In the field of real-time PCR, Generon provides a comprehensive portfolio of singleplex, duplex, triplex, and quadruplex kits.

The R&D-FAS team is continuously engaged in developing new, tailor-made kits based on specific customer needs, as demonstrated by a recent duplex assay targeting two GMO maize events: DP202216 and DAS-40278-9.

Generon also collaborates with international partners to provide solutions in the field of immunoassays, including ELISA and lateral flow tests, assisting customers throughout all stages (from purchase to application) through qualified technical support.

Thanks to its R&D-FAS team, Generon reaffirms its commitment to turning scientific research into practical, reliable, and innovative solutions, ensuring safety and quality across the entire agri-food and environmental supply chain.
