The Rhamnose Test is a broth used to test the ability of isolated Listeria colonies to assimilate and ferment. This ability is typical of Listeria monocytogenes, Listeria innocua and Listeria welshimeri. As part of the RAPID'L.mono method, certified by AFNOR ISO 16140 method, it can be used as a confirmatory test of Listeria monocytogenes and to distinguish it from Listeria ivanovii. The Rhamnose Test is a broth containing a nutrient base (peptone), ramnose and a pH indicator. Ramnose fermentation is detected when the color of the pH indicator changes from purple to yellow.
