DNA extraction is often the most time consuming experimental step in the detection of food contaminants. FASTfood is a quick DNA extraction kit adressing the need of short time-to-results. The protocol doesn't include a DNA purification and concentration step, as a consequence, the use of the kit is limited to specific purposes: DNA extraction from enriched bacterial cultures - DNA extraction from simple and uniform food samples to be tested quickly on receival. The kit doesn't contain or require any cancerogenic chemical (e.g. chloroform or phenol) and the protocol allows for automation through robotic liquid handlers.
