Bio-Rad iQ-Check – PCR Real-Time kit for rapid detection of Salmonella enteritidis – Validated AOAC

Though the incidence of human salmonellosis is decreasing in some areas, millions of cases are still reported worldwide each year. Regulations have been implemented in the EU to monitor Salmonella spp. and specific serotypes, including S. enteritidis, in poultry from the primary production stage to food products. The early detection of the environmental contamination is in fact a key point for a successful S. Enteritidis risk management. The iQ-Check Salmonella enteritidis PCR Detection Kit is based on the fast, sensitive, and proven technology of real-time PCR. The kit is intended for the rapid and specific detection of Salmonella enteritidis in pooled eggs, poultry meat and environmental samples of primary production. Due to the sensitivity and specificity of PCR, results can be obtained in little as 16 hrs following a single enrichment in a nonselective buffered peptone water. Positive samples can be confirmed starting from the same broth using Bio-Rad RAPID'Salmonella Agar. iQ-Check Salmonella enteritidis Kit uses an optimized system of primers and probes to ensure high specificity. It is designed as a multiplex reaction that includes an internal inhibition control (HEX) that is amplified in parallel with the target DNA (FAM) for assuring a reliable negative result. The iQ-Check Free DNA Removal Solution completes and optimizes the method by removing free DNA from food and environmental samples. The iQ-Check Salmonella enteritidis kit has been validated and certified according to AOAC as equivalent to or better than the reference method ISO6579. All the iQ-Check Kits include the DNA extraction buffer and share the same amplification protocol, hence they can be run on in parallel on the same plate using low- or high-throughput instruments, depending on the laboratory's needs. The iQ-Check workflow can be automatized using the iQ-Check Prep System, a robotic liquid handling platform performing DNA extraction and PCR plate setup.
